Our Lady’s Community News and Events
Newsletter Issue 1 – October 2023
Headteacher’s Welcome
Welcome to this edition of the parents’ newsletter, which highlights much of the life of the school since the beginning of the academic year.
I am proud of the work of our talented staff and the commitment of our students who have started the term positively. I remind parents of our free breakfast club which starts at 07.30 each morning and our after school revision and homework clubs as well as study zone which run until 4.30 pm each day.
Music tuition has now started and students who would like to learn to play an instrument or sing are encouraged to sign up for these. Choir practice is held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during prep.
Secondary Transfer
It is wonderful to see so many Year 5 and Year 6 parents attending our open events. Open mornings will continue to be available until 18th October. I know from personal experience that making the choice for secondary school can often feel overwhelming, given the choices available. It is therefore encouraging to see such active engagement from our parent community during this pivotal transitional period.
I am pleased by the high level of interest from parents regarding our transition to a coeducational environment.
A few reminders:
Year 11 & 13 Mock exams begin on Monday, 6th November 2023. This provides students with an opportunity to test themselves on what they have learned so far in their GCSE and A level studies. Topic lists have been provided and I encourage students to use their time wisely and revise for these exams over the October half term. Half term revision will also take place in school for selected students in several subjects. A letter will have been issued to individual students by Mr Shine.
We are looking forward to our 6th Form Open Evening scheduled for Thursday, 16th November, 5-7pm. It serves as an excellent opportunity to explore the wide range of curriculum pathways our Sixth Form has to offer.
The certificate celebration evening for students who achieved GCSE success in the summer exams will take place on Thursday, 23rd November 2023.
We look forward to a productive year ahead.
Andy English, Headteacher
Extra-curricular activities
What are you going to get involved in this term? We have a wide range of clubs and study activities for our students. See here our extra-curricular activities.
In the UK, October marks the beginning of Black History Month. This national celebration aims to promote and celebrate the contributions of those with African and Caribbean heritage to British society and to foster an understanding of Black history in general. A wide range of activities planned for the students. We are also serving cultural food every Wednesday. See our delicious menu here.

Geography Field Work
What a beautiful day to do the Yr 11 geography fieldwork at Pett Level beach near Hastings. All students worked very well together to make this a great day. Well done girls!!
